A day at the beach
By Robert Skrob | July 19, 2008
I’m taking Friday’s off this July. I spent Friday at the beach with the family.
Check out the photo album for a quick video my son asked me to shoot from our camera. My kids like to pretend that they are local news crews.
In the morning we rented Wave Runners for a couple of hours. We had a lot of fun and let the kids drive them. We found some calm water and the kids were able to get them up to 45-50 miles an hour. Engine screaming wide open, water rushing by, it’s a rush.
Here is a photo album of our day:

On our ride we came across a group of porpoises hunting for their lunch. On the WaveRunners we were able to get really close. They went under us and some times followed in our wake. It’s really neat to see them in their own environment rather than watching them from shore. My wife tried to take photos of a porpoise. Unfortunately she snapped the photo too late. So, we have lots of close up photos of water. Only a couple of photos that have porpoise fins in water. Here is a photo of me with my son Robert pointing to a porpoise fin. In this photo, it just went under water. But, just me, there was a porpoise fin there the moment before the photo was snapped.
For lunch we went to a beachside bar. We had raw oysters and fried grouper sandwiches. Also, my wife and I enjoyed some adult beverages. It’s been a while since I had a rum runner so Friday was the day. I had 3 of them.
I always marveled at folks who could sleep on the beach. There are all those noisy kids, crashing waves and people walking by, how could someone fall asleep on the beach. I figured it out, rum runners. I slept for 3 hours while the kids played in the surf.
Around 5:00 pm my wife got tired of sitting on the beach watching me sleep so we had to go home. So, we had a successful mini-vacation Friday. I hope you have a great weekend.
