My Reluctance to Embrace Internet Marketing
By Robert Skrob | October 8, 2008
I “grew up” in the information marketing business in the off-line world. This was in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. Everyone was all excited about the Internet and online marketing. I’m kind of a techie that always has to have the latest gadgets, but in terms of sales, I mostly saw using the Internet as some sort of fad. A lot of people were excited about online marketing, but direct mail, telephone and fax were still more effective.
I’ve taken a slow and deliberate approach toward marketing on the Internet. But don’t think I lived in the dark ages. In fact, I’ve owned my own web server and email server since 1996. It’s just that I didn’t rely on the Internet as my sole source of business.
In the last few years I’ve seen the Internet blossom into a business-building machine. I’ve created websites that are just like ATM machines, except better. These machines put money into my account, every day, automatically.
That is why I co-authored a book with Bob Regnerus about Internet marketing. It’s titled The Official Get Rich Guide to Information Marketing on the Internet. This book outlines the exact steps I use to create websites that generate money for my information marketing businesses.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t know anything about creating websites myself. I have a “web guy” who does all the actual work. His name is Doug. I write up the websites in MS Word and email that file to Doug. Then he creates the site. I email him the changes I want made and then it’s done. I’ll make posts to my blog by myself, but otherwise Doug does everything.
That’s what we want to teach you in our book, The Official Get Rich Guide to Information Marketing on the Internet. How you can create a website and understand what you need to know to prepare the information for a web designer, evaluate what he or she creates and then give him or her instructions on how to finalize it for the Web.
On October 14th, I’m hosting a no-cost teleseminar with my co-author, Bob Regnerus. We are going to discuss Internet marketing and even open the call to answer your questions.
We aren’t offering any products or anything. We are simply hosting the call to show you how much good stuff is in the book. We want you to get so excited that you’ll run down to the store to buy our book, so we’ll be packing as much good information into the call as possible.

Join us for the call; I’m sure you’ll get a lot of great information. I’m excited to share the systems and processes I use to build successful websites.
For years I looked at claims about the Internet with skepticism. I tested a lot of things but got better results from off-line marketing. But in just the last three years, the tide has really changed. Now there are a lot of people on the Web, and millions of them are buying things. There isn’t any reason they couldn’t be buying from you.

I don’t have any knowledge of info marketing or internet marketing but would like to know how to set up a membership site or continuity program starting from nothing and only $1,000 of start up money. I don’t know anything about setting up seb sites either. Am I the only person left like this?

You have a great question. This is doable. Bob and I will address this on the call.
Have a great weekend.

Hi – I’ve already bought your book and it it is very good and been enjoying your emails about sucess stoies over the last few months. I’m kind of the opposite to the previous question about no web site etc. I have a web site and I’m paying out to 1shoppingcart etc but my authors (and myself) are still writing. Do you know of info products that I could sell whilst I’m getting set up (it will also keep my husband from moaning about the lack of income yet!).
Thanks

I have several things that I’m passionate and well qualified to create products around. All of them fall into the fitness/self-defense/personal development categories (similar to what Matt Furey has done.)
I have 8 or 9 product ideas (plus some continuity ideas), but:
1) I have no idea which one to start with (should I start with several?)
2) Key word searches don’t seem to indicate a REALLY hot market.
Do I do them anyway, figuring the market is large enough? Or do I scrap all those ideas for something I’m LESS passionate about, (and less qualified) for something that is a hotter niche?

Jon,
Which of your 8 or 9 ideas does your gut tell you will work out the best?
I plan to ask Bob Regnerus about your question, I’m really curious what he has to say about these types of Internet researching tools.
I’m curious to find out just how often these tools are completely conclusive and how many times the produce enough information for you to make an educated guess.
However, my gut tells me that if there are current providers in a niche, coming out with something different targeted to a sub-set of that niche could be a winner.
Best wishes!

Hello,
I would like that answer as well. What are the right kinds of information that people will buy that aren’t already being heavily promoted?
Thanks,
Wendy

There are a lot of products to learn with that are available from Clickbank.com and others.
It’s fine to learn with those, but very soon in your career you’ll want to create your own products.
Your margins are higher, you’ll make more money and you’ll be able to invest more in growing your business. Plus, you’ll be the celebrity and have the opportunity for back-end profits.
It’s fine to use those products to learn, but please give serious thought to quickly creating your own products. As a learning tool, you may actually want to use something that is widely available from others. This way you can see how several other info-marketers are selling the product, test which ones work and learn selling systems.
But within a few months, promote a Wendy Product.

Dear Robert, unfortunately I mixed up the time zones and missed your conference call today (never could tell East from West so I thought you were starting 8 hours behind UK not 5). Did it get recorded at all please? If not, did you cover the question I asked earlier today about the products that might be available to start selling?
Thanks
Margaret
