Seminoles Advance to College World Series

By Robert Skrob | June 8, 2008

The Florida State Seminoles beat Wichita State today to win the Super Regionals and advance to the College Baseball World Series.

My son, Robert had a summer accelerated reading class today so I took my daughter Samantha to the game.  The temperature was over 95 degrees and we were in the sun for a couple of hours.  Since the season began in February we’ve been looking forward to the opportunity to play in the NCAA playoffs.  Now, the Seminole’s play versus Stanford on Saturday afternoon.

Here is a video of the last out, a grounder to 2nd baseman Tommy Oravetz thrown to Dennis Guinn on first base.  Then, the celebration by the team and fans. Sorry for the poor quality.  I took the video with my camera.

Baseball is such a unique sport because of the way you learn about the players week to week.  Each week some players have positive streaks and others go hitless.  In college baseball you get to know several of the player families and girlfriends which add to interest.

After the game we came home and swam in the pool while we listened to the post-game interview.

If you haven’t been following the Seminoles there is a great story in their catcher, Buster Posey.  Buster came to FSU to become a pitcher.  His first season they asked him to play shortstop and he agreed.  After a great season at shortstop they asked him to play catcher.  Even though he’d never played catcher before he agreed.  Now after two seasons Buster is the Collegiate Player of the Year.  Buster was drafted by the San Francisco Giants on Thursday’s MLB draft.

Through hard work and practice Buster Posey had a great year batting and as a catcher.  Plus, since he has an arm that’s good enough to be a starting pitcher he can throw out base runners attempting to steal 2nd base.  Buster caught a runner stealing today.

My travel schedule won’t allow me to go to Omaha to cheer on the Seminoles.  I’ll have to cheer for the Seminoles through the television. If you catch them on the television you’ll want to watch the great Buster Posey and his team mates. .
