Today, I turn 37 years old.
By Robert Skrob | May 2, 2008
It’s weird to think of 37. It sounds so old to me. That’s almost 40!
My entire career I’ve been the youngest.
When I was 23 years I was responsible for supervising a team with people more than twice my age. I purchased Harris Management Group, from Bob Harris at 28 years old. I was the youngest business owner I knew about.
But, now things are changing.
I’m no longer the youngest. I know of several business owners that are younger than me and I feel like I have to run to catch up.
Even when I was 23 I didn’t believe age made a difference. Success is about putting together a group of days where you complete the highest priority tasks to accomplish your goals. If you focus on the tasks that are important and allow the others things to themselves, you’ll accomplish your goals.
One thing I have learned, success is messy. I used say that I could be better than other business owners. I’d keep my business organized and under control while at the same time growing rapidly. Control equals slow growth. Messy equals fast growth. I’ve come to terms that I’ll allow for things to be a little disorganized as long as the high priority tasks are getting completed.
Lastly, for years I dreamed of the big house and the nice pool. (I’ll post photos in a 3 weeks when the furniture arrives.) My wife and I have lived in so many crappy places that the nice house seemed so far away. But, now that I have it, it hasn’t changed much. It is much nicer, it’s convenient having your own hot tub with 60 jets. However, I don’t feel any different. I still have to work, I still have deadlines and I’m still busy.
So, Happy Birthday to me. I hope you are doing well. Have a great weekend.
