I’m coming to you this month from seat 6E in the first-class cabin of flight AA1229 from San Diego to Dallas where I’ll catch a flight home to Tallahassee.

I’ve been traveling a lot this summer. There’s a lot of Retention Deficit Disorder out there, and I’m the guy subscription membership programs call to treat it..

We’ve had a tumultuous October with Hurricane Michael. Overall we were extremely lucky. We did spend several days without electricity or internet. Lots of trees fell in Tallahassee, luckily none of them hit my house or cars. The days without electricity gave us an opportunity to clean up.

This month, I have some personal travel. First, my wife and I are flying to Raleigh, North Carolina, for the FSU Seminoles versus NC State Wolfpack football game. My wife, Kory, graduated from NC State, so we’ll be catching up with a lot of her college friends while in town. The next week, Kory and I are traveling to South Bend, Indiana, for the FSU Seminoles versus Notre Dame Fighting Irish football game. I graduated from Florida State but have never been to a football game in the shadow of the Golden Dome.

After the football game weekend, I’m attending Ken McCarthy’s System Seminar Reunion. Ken is widely known as the first person to write about the commercial application of the internet. Yes, that’s right, that internet thing that birthed Amazon, Google, Facebook, and a million other commercial enterprises. Ken McCarthy was the pioneer who held the first conference on internet marketing.

All internet marketing courses have been derivatives of the original that Ken taught at his first “System Seminar.” Ken has been copied by the best, and it’ll be great to have the opportunity to connect with him and see everyone again.

My book, Retention Point: The Single Biggest Secret to Membership and Subscription Growth has been selling briskly. So much so that it became an Amazon Best Seller. I’ve been using Amazon advertising to promote my book, and it has enabled me to reach a lot of target customers.

It’s ironic; I wrote the book as a training tool for new clients and their teams. However, the book has turned into a great new client acquisition tool for me. The book, together with the Amazon advertising platform, has enabled me to reach people I never could have in any other way and convert them into clients.
